To mine players need a pickaxe that they have the required Mining level to mine with. The pickaxe can be in the inventory wielded in the main hand slot or stored in the tool belt. Players should then choose where to mine taking into consideration the proximity to a bank and what ores are available. Players only need to left-click once on any rock containing ore to mine it provided they have the level needed for that ore type. The obtained ores gems and essence can then be sold for profit or used by the player for Smithing Crafting and Runecrafting skills.

Rock have two assigned stats durability and hardness. To view the stat on a particular rock the player can right-click and select prospect.
Durability or hitpoints determines the amount of progress needed to get ore from a rock. Once the player has built up enough progress points to equal the rocks durability they will gain ore and their progress will reset.
Hardness reduces the amount of progress gained from mining the rock and is checked against penetration. Using a pickaxe of a tier equivalent to or better than the tier of rock being mined will eliminate the effect of hardness.
